Mount Karthala

What awaits you up there

A caldera 3 km by 4, at over 2,300 m, above the sea of clouds. To get there: the rainforest and its birds found nowhere else, then the high-altitude heath, then the rock of the volcano.

The weather decides, not the schedule

On the morning of every trip, the team checks the weather, the state of the track and trail, and the group. Three decisions are possible.

  • GoThe trip goes ahead as planned.
  • AdaptThe trip goes ahead with a different time, pace or route.
  • No GoThe trip is postponed. You choose a new date or a full refund.

A climb that leaves the volcano clean

Every participant carries their waste back down. An optional contribution, from €2 to €10 depending on the tour, feeds a local fund. Once €500 has been collected, we organise an action on the ground: clean-up, planting or signage.

Every trip is also recorded in the Karthala360 data space: visitor numbers, safety decisions, waste, wildlife and plant sightings. The number of people guided is shown in the public counter, just below.

Public counter

How many people climb Mount Karthala?

The counter starts with the first registered hikers. Everyone who scans the QR code at the start of the trail, with or without a guide, will be counted, and the total will appear here automatically. Meanwhile, see the estimated visitor numbers since 2020.

These figures are free and public. The detail, by month, by tour and by country, with the weather and litter by area, is reserved for Data Pro.
